About
I'm a freelance developer based in Swansea, South Wales — specialising in Laravel, Livewire, Alpine & Tailwind (the TALL stack). I work closely with a small number of clients on a retainer basis, becoming a trusted, long-term partner in your product's success.
I can support and migrate existing projects or build new projects from the ground up.

Do you migrate or support legacy projects?
Yes. Quite a few of our current clients have come to in this manner. We've taken on their project when their developer has left them, we've supported and updated the projects with new features and improved security. We also make sure they are updated so any third party libraries are updated to the current versions.
Do you build new platforms?
Yes. Most of our clients eventually decide they want a more modern approach and we rebuild their platforms. We don't just rebuild them the same way with the same functionality - its at this point we need to look at the project with fresh eyes and explain how it could be better and improve on the legacy system.
Do you provide a detailed specification document?
No. I've been in the business for over 25 years and what I have found is that the "spec" is often just written to tick off a task - its rarely read through and almost never holds up as changes creep in.
We work on a scope document - this is an easy to understand "scope" of what the main features of the platform and once agreed we can then give a "guestimate". We then work out a payment schedule such as X days per month OR a percentage invoiced in stages.
This allows us to have a scope but also to add or remove features as we go when we find that perhaps the initial ideas do not work or could be better.
Do you work on fixed priced projects?
No. As we find that detailed specification documents do not work in reality and there is often scope creep (when new features or changes are required).
Do you work on a retainer?
Yes. In fact most of our clients convert to retainers once we have decided that we work well together.
How do your retainers work?
Pretty simple really. Clients use me as part of their team and pay for X days per month. Those paid days can be used for any services I provide (from development to hosting, support and anything else). All work is logged and reported within my system which is available to clients at all times so they can see how long tasks take. The majority of time I under the given "guestimate".
Any unused paid time is not lost and just rolls over to the following month and banked - as long as the retainer is in use any banked time can be used whenever needed.
